: : Hello, what a cool site. I just dropped in to get tips on waitressing, just started doing it.
: : I have worked in deli's and golf course snack shops, mild bar tending, but man, this is intense.
: : I find that the money is good, work is hard, but where else are you going to get the instant gratification on going home w/money in hand?
: : I wonder if a small, cozy restuarant would be better than a big busy one.
: : I work in an extremely busy one, and it has at least 20 wait staff. It's like utter chaos on busy weekends, but it's neat to stand back, and watch everyone do their thing, like spokes in a well greased link of a rapidly spinning wheel.
: : Any tips out there?

: : Marian,
: : : : : : All of us have known how hard waitressing is, has been, and will be. Due to the nature of the work, the abuse, long hours, sometimes thankless efforts, it is considered to be a low end job and treated that way. I have met many people who wanted to pickup part time work, performed the waitressing jobs. We, as a country eat out at restaurants more than anyone else in the world, but the servers are treated ugly. I wonder if all the waitresses went on strike, what the people would do...cater the food? ha! dont think so for very long! Thanks for your help Marian.

: : : : : : : I know my sister waitresses have stories to tell, angst to vent---How is it this is practically the only "profession" that is not addressed on this site? I am looking for anecdotes, experiences, gripes, etc to compose a "tell-all" Anyone?

: : : : : am writing an aarticle on how to survuve being a student supporting yourself on waitressing. would appreciate any tips, tales and any other info.

: : : : i'm am planning to start out at a fast pace restaurant as either a hostess or a waitress, what tips would help me with this difficult and regurous line of work. Is there a certain way to help me ... (truncated)
