Understand the bull of the process and establishment employers: If most jobs aren't posted, and are successfully filled by "networkers"/referals (politicians) then that is a profound revelation, not only don't they want the best candidate, they insist on corrupting the logic of the process by introducing a severe bias to comfort their anxiety. This can be nepotism or some virtual variety, by class, religion, frat/sorority, school, etc. Most of the reasoning comes down from above in companies and is actually a given employer inanity like "3 good references and a urine sample". That reminds me, to deal with the stool sample of a problem learn to goose-step and sycophant yourself, never point out real company problems without attributing the keen insight to your leader(parasite) so they don't have to steal it, which they will. The pretenders are endless and people with dependents (wife/kids, parents) will corrupt any thing to come out on top. Also, Human Resources is a bunch of resentful sheep, that hate: younger newbies coming in making more than them, and the rat race their caught in. Its true you generally need a job to get a job, and temp jobs count, read some temping books, I have and they can really help. Remember the mariners phrase, "one hand for yourself and one for the boat". P.S. Keep a journal/log of everything at your jobs, get written references when you get atta-boys, don't wait till your going out the door. Proactively manage your manager/solicite feedback.
