: I just read your story, "How To Beat The Boss." It was very timely because I am convinced that there are many women in administrative and secretarial positions, as well as men in programming and other computer related jobs, who were hired on an exempt basis for a 40 hour work week and are working many overtime hours and not getting paid. I am seriously considering starting a referendum in California to overturn or fine tune the labor laws to eliminate this situation entirely. However, I need to get a sampling of how many people are in this position and how many would vote to overturn or change the laws behind it. Any advice, help, guidance, etc., will be most appreciated.

I am dealing with this right now. I come in early some days, work through lunch on others and when it is at all possible, I stay late. There just isn't enough time in a 40 hour work week to get the work done. My company does not pay overtime either. So the guilt of leaving at five is terrible. Then the guilt for not being home to be with family is even worse. If there were overtime pay involved, all the guilt would be gone. Let me know the out come of your efforts.
