I guess it all depends on the type of restaurant that you work at. If you work at a high class, fancy restaurant, then you will undoubtably make higher tips. However, if you work somewhere like Big Boy, Ranch, or Ponderosa, your tips will not be that great. I work at a buffet style restaurant as a waitress and I believe that I do much more work than regular waitresses. I must constantly remove plates from peoples tables so that they do not pile up, get refills, and deliver food on top of that. For some reason, many people do not think that I deserve a tip for this, when in reality, I am working much harder than a waitress that does not do buffet. A waitress at any other restaurant only needs to check on their table 2-4 times throughout their meal. I, on the other hand must go there every 5 minutes because they eat many plates of food which must be cleared and since these people eat so much, they get thirsty and their drinks need to be refilled. After all that, I get a measly dollar or fifty cent tip. I rarely get a ten or even fifteen percent tip, and get stiffed at least 8 or 9 times in a typical shift. I feel that I am a great waitress and many of my regulars have told me this. I think that the customers should watch the waitress and see how much work she actually does and compare it to a nice, sit down style restaurant waitress. They will be shocked. That's all that I have to say, but I just wanted waitresses, and fellow buffet eaters to get the inside view of a waitress at a buffet style restaurant.
