Sandy, here goes
When you start, work your tail off, stay half hour late, come in half hour early, you get the deal. Fax your own faxes. Do it all and be eager to learn and ASK. Take a course at night that relates to the work to show you're into it. They'll love it. Take notes; keep a diary for work. Don't be too pushy, remember this is the government. They are slower than most work places. After that, once they see promise in you, you can come in late, take more coffee breaks, the whole bit. But you must first PROVE YOURSELF. Remember, everybody and their sister wants to work for the government. BTW, is it the US or Canadian govt. ? And which dept.?
: I'm starting a new long-term temp job with the government next week. Having never before worked in a bureaucratic environment like that, any helpful hints would be much appreciated.
