POST-WAR CENTRAL AMERICA
A Vision for the Future

Full Description | Team Biographies

"Peace is a process which never ends. It is an attitude, a way of life, a way of solving problems and of resolving conflicts. The Post-War Central America Web site will bring attention to the innumerable individuals and organizations who valiantly work to rebuild the Central American family by overcoming the hatred and divisions of our past. Web Lab will give us the crucial opportunity to share our experiences with people in North America and around the world so that together we may construct a brighter future for our global community."

--Oscar Arias S.,
president of Costa Rica 1986-1990,
1987 Nobel Peace laureate, and founder,
The Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress

Ever imagined you might have an opportunity to exchange views with a Nobel Peace Prize-winner? Ten years after the Arias Peace Plan paved the way for the end of armed conflicts in Central America, this site will provide a rich opportunity for former leaders and ex-combatants of the region to talk about their efforts to rebuild their lives and their countries. Their stories will provide the context for an unprecedented people-to-people dialogue between Central and North Americans about mutual concerns like refugees, reconciliation, NAFTA and the best role for U.S. foreign policy.

A collaboration between two major Costa Rican organizations, this project combines the enormous resources of the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress and the Internet expertise and commitment of Acceso, an organization dedicated to promoting and utilizing the Internet as an effective tool for public interest groups across Central America.

As Paul Fervoy, Program Coordinator of Acceso puts it, "We hope that, through our project, North and Central Americans alike can share and learn from one another about the process of healing and rebuilding that must follow times of conflict."
