Dear Cindy,

I told my old boss to take this job & shove it fifteen years ago. I was working for a company selling mainframe computer supplies. I was one of their top $ales people for over five years. My one advantage was that I knew the products, the marketplace and my corporate clients so well, that I was able to start my own company, doing the same type of work, except - I DID NOT HAVE TA WORK FOR DA MAN ANYMORE. My wife and I had been saving up for a larger home - I decided to take that cash (about $10,000) and rented a 500 square foot office in Oak Brook, IL (the corporate home of McDonalds). I also called various vendors I knew might help me in my new venture. I brought $5,000 worth of diskettes, computer tape cartridges, nylon ribbons used on large IBM mainframe computers and a large quantity of misc. computer supplies. I then contacted all of my previous clients, and told them I had started my own company, and needed their business. 80 % of these clients continued to do business with me. The nice thing is that I could do my own thing from then on. Two years ago, I even put on my own Computer EXPO & seminar. I was a guest on WLS AM Radio in Chicago for about 30 minutes and gave away FREE Microsoft Office Software. One of my EXPO co-sponsors, Microsoft, had given it to me to help me promote the EXPO. My net profit was over $10,000 on the day of the EXPO.

But how can this help you? YOU can start your own business from Podunk Iowa - or anyplace in the USA. Here's how -

1) Buy a good web site design tool. I like to use Claris Home Page Ver. 3.0 for Windows 95.
2) Offer to do a free web site for your local chamber of commerce, church group, school, etc.
3) After the site is up, use them as a refference.
4) Contact all of the businesses in your area and quote them a price of $500.00 for a simple web site design. (one home page + 2 linked pages.)
5) After you start making money on your own, tell your boss to - well you know.
6)... (truncated)
