No one should ever or have to ever put up with that nonsense. The first course of action is to tell the employer then and there, that you don't condone it. Let them make the choice. As for the yelling, it sounds as though you were working for a two bit operation to start with. First rule of management "Scold in private and praise in public"! If he had a beef with you, as a professional, he should have called you in the office and closed the door. Better off without them.
As to your question, yes, I have experienced it. After I told them I was not to be talked to that way, they told me "take it or leave it", for which I replied, "take your job and shove it squarely up your ass"!
