Hey, I hate my job as well. What really stinks is the fact that I moved cross country to take this job five months ago, took on mega debts to do so and now find myself stuck in an insane-asylum of a job. I work for the Police Department of a large city and have learned that A-the pay is not exactly what they advertised, B-the 'quality' training program turns out to be Xeroxed copies of the real program from the training center that our administrator has deemed 'too expensive' for us to attend, and C-the atmosphere in the place is a little worse than a submarine, a little better than a WWII Underground Bomb Shelter. Throw in three dozen very disgruntled employees and you've got quite a nice example of the "This Job Sucks". HOWEVER! I'm not just sitting about aimlessly bitching. I hate this job so much that I physically have to steel myself to go in each day, I mean, I truly do feel physically ill, AND, during my post-hiring physical, it was noted that my blood pressure has gone up considerably, after having been absolutely stable for the past 10 years, but I do not plan to stay there longer than is absolutely necessary. You, my dear, need a plan! I have no mentor, absolutely NO ONE to count on for any type of guidance, but I am looking at other job opportunities and looking at my present circumstances as nothing more than a learning experience, which I intend to milk dry and spit out in another 7 months. I can do ANYTHING for five, six, seven months and so can you! An example of what I'm doing to prepare my escape? I was promised specialized training at a facility that specializes in legal training. Believe it or not, even though my training has ALREADY BEEN PAID FOR, I'm NOT allowed to attend, because the fiscal advisors feel our department can't afford to have staff absent for a week while they learn to do their jobs!!!! I get three weeks of paid vacation this year. I found out how much the courses cost to the average person on the street and I'm paying... (truncated)
