Is my mail My mail?
Posted by: Mary on September 05, 1998 at 15:39:13:

I have been recieving unsolicited mail from an ex-employee. He has also been calling me at work when I have requested for him not to. I have sent letters, and spoke to him telling him to please stop...but it continues. My boss does not want me to recieve mail from this person. It is not really bothering me, except my boss keeps prying into this situation and insisting I stop it. I do not want to make a big deal about such a silly issue and I have no intention of making enemies with anyone...especially this person who keeps attempting to contact me. I do not want to get police involved and am afraid of retaliation from this individual so....I just ignore calls and letters. Recently he has been very discrete and not even put return addresses on the letters he sends. But my boss still recognizes them as from him...she says she realizes it isn't my fault...but then contacted my immediate boss and corperate supervisors saying she wants this person to stop. I don't even have a mailing address or phone number for this person any more since he's moved several times. Now they want me to contact the police, sit down and explain my relationship with him...which I already have done numerous times...and attempt to stop him forcefully. I don't feel they have a legal right to intercept my mail. Isn't that a federal offence? Also, I know this man may be suicidal and I don't want to encourage him to commit suicide or aggravate him. Of course he has done NOTHING wrong in our place of business, aside from sending mail after he was terminated. I don't want to discuss my private life, or lose my job, or be blamed for his actions, however minor they are. I offered to write a letter in conjunction with my boss, to prove that I am attempting to stop this...however, he doesn't or won't seem to understand. My supervisors have intercepted my mail, returned without my knowledge, asked me to sit down and open mail to examine it with them. Help!
