Unfortunately, having been raised in a lunch-bucket steelworkers family, I seem to be untrainable in that regard. It has kept me out of jobs commensurate with my education. I wish I had answers. Perhaps when the supply of "human resources" dries up, and they need real people to work for them and make them money, things will change.

: Sometimes - just sometimes - we get treated how we present ourselves. Maybe more of us should stop acting like "resources"; organize; fight the treatment. Thanks, Ellen!

I think a lot of us are voting with our feet, we are out the door at the first opportunity, or making opportunities. I would like to see a union in my business, but I have also seem not one but three different companies shut down in the same town when the workers tried to organize. Is organizing still feasible in today's marketplace?
