I have talked to others - I get a nod of agreement from most everyone I talk with. Some are concerned that it is impossible to organize, others fear that they are easily replaceable. I beleive that this is concept whose time has come to the computer industry.

The CWA's web site does not lure me to participate in any way. It does not seem to comment on the issue. We need to start a board and web site (if there is none).

Two issues negatively affect our profession and personal lives. 1) Poor Management methods 2) Poor professional standards. Both need to be fixed.

On the one side, poor budgeting, poor scheduling and poor project management on the part of managers causes computer professionals to work incredible hours - sacrificing personal lives.

On the other side, many wanna-be professionals that know a little CONTRACT themselves out at $20-$30/hr or they claim to know something they touched once and take 4 times longer to do a good job. (Try to get a plumber for $20-$30/hr).

Standards should be set, certifications awarded, and pay ranges locked down. I've seen IS Manager positions offered from $30K to $90K for similar responsibility and stress. The difference? Government position on the low end, Commercial position on the high end. This is not good for the country.

Are there News groups on the subject?

Are there related web sites?

How can we take a poll of interest?
